Journal - General Spiel
This part of the journal contains entries relating to computers in some manner or fashion, though not entries of a technical nature (they go in the technical section). Things like notes on small site tweaks can be found here and maybe the odd link or two.
scripting updates and stuff 3rd Jul 2003
Checked through the coding for the image grab from USRA as shown here and everything looked ok. Read source at the target page and noticed they'd sneaked a space into the image reference. Wrote a workaround for my grabber and all seems to be working now.
Have got a clientside-defined-thumbnail-crop system working in IE6 and NS7 so just have to work the code through as an include before adding it to the scriptix-thumbnails section.
Added a counter to the current GD2+ thumbnail class download page and was pleasantly surprised to note 7 downloads in one day. Also threw in a quick redirect for the old img_create.php file which people are still accessing - probably from phpbuilder or resourceindex - now goes to the thumbnails page.
php 5.0.0 beta 1 is available 30th Jun 2003
Have just been checking out the changelog from the php.net site and it looks pretty healthy to say the least. See they have added a function to the bundled GD libraries called imagefilter() so will have to have a play with that at some stage soon.
Got the binaries dl'ed, will let you know how it goes.
Hmmm, updated mdac, edited the .ini, shifted everything to where it should be and it is still not running. Will have to pester someone later when they come online.
bigger buttons 24th Jun 2003
For some odd reason the lowest slide-down-button is only active for about 50% of its height, once your mouse runs below that the menu contracts.
To give people a slightly better chance of actually clicking the links I added a few pixels to the height of each button.
Still need to do some browser dependent stylesheets so the buttons look as good in IE as they do in Mozilla - on the agenda so to speak ;).
new site look 21st Jun 2003
Pestered an Andy type chap in a forum to run up the caricatures and drew some wavy lines with dropshadows.
Slung that all together with some new javascripted menu systems (top one still fubars in NS6 a tad) and a PHP/MySQL template.
A few more tweaks and I'll be set to start adding content.
